Chat with Brilliant New Band 3′s & Sevens frontman and Guitarduino creator Igor Stolarsky
Bazingapop sister site Geekboy.it recently featured an article on Igor Stolarsky and his customised Arduino guitar project ‘Guitarduino‘.
Having been drawn in by this clever piece of technological creativity, I decided to have a chat with Igor and it seems that as well as working on his ‘Guitarduino’ project in his spare time, he is an audio engineer, producer as well as a musician and member of new upcoming band 3′s & Sevens. Plus he’s a genuinely lovely guy.
I wanted to find out a little bit more about Igor, his job and his new band so I asked him a few questions and this is what he had to say.
Bazingapop - Firstly, I believe you are a music producer, director, musician as well as being a kick ass guitarist in your band 3′s & Sevens? Tell me a little more about this and what exactly it is you do.
Igor - I’m an audio engineer and producer for my day job, so when I’m not working on 3′s & Sevens I’m recording, editing, mixing and mastering music and other audio (i.e podcasts and live sound). My interest in production and engineering came from wanting to be able to record my own music, so for 3′s & Sevens I do all of that stuff in addition to writing music and lyrics, singing, playing guitar and kicking ass (thanks for noticing!)
Bp - Who do you and who have you worked with?
I - Recently, I submerged myself in the horror/glory that is ‘Replacire’ by producing/recording/mixing their debut album. I’ve also mixed an EP and a new single for Connecticut rockers ‘Ula Ruth’ and worked with ‘Drunken Logic’ , headed by the inimitable Jake Cassman, producing/recording and mixing their debut album.
Bp - Tell me about 3′s & Sevens, who is included in the line-up?
I - 3′s & Sevens is myself and David Kahn, who is one of the best bass players and funkiest human beings I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet.
Bp - Where are you guys from and when did you form?
I - Kahn and I met at Berklee College of Music and we were actually in another band that had a more traditional rock sound. After that ended, we liked working together enough to form another project and instead of just starting another rock band we decided to see how far we could get with just the two of us and electronics. That’s what motivated me to create the ‘Guitarduino’.
Bp - What kind of music do you create/perform and who are your influences?
I - We play primarily a mix of Rock, Funk and electronic music, but I am hoping for and looking forward to lots of collaborations, so hopefully we can add some other genres to that mix. We are definitely influenced by alternative rock bands like ‘Radiohead’, ‘Queens of the Stone Age’, ‘Primus’, ‘Incubus’ and ‘Nine Inch Nails but what we are listening to on any given day is all over the place.
Bp - Finally, what is next for you personally and also for your band?
I - Our immediate goal is to get stuff out there for people to listen to ASAP. We only started this project recently so right now ‘Let Me Know’ is the only song we’ve released but we have another single in the pipeline and a live video on the way that will show off the most famous member of the band the ‘Guitarduino’. We also hope to take this live with shows around Boston and in a few months Los Angeles, where I am relocating for work.
There is so much more than meets the eye about this talented duo and I love the way that Igor has taken his love for electronics and incorporated it into his other love, music. It is obvious, after talking to Igor that he works damn hard doing the thing he loves and it definitely shows in the music created by 3′s & Sevens. The uniquely electronic sound mixed with the growling guitar background makes this band stand out from the rest, and is introduced to us in their debut single ‘Let me Know’.
“Let Me Know”
The band is still very much in its infancy, with only two singles completed so far. However, I feel that once they have found their feet there will be no stopping them and they are definitely one to watch. The conscious decision to defer from adding more members to the band, and to rely on electronics to complete the massive sound they resonate, was absolutely the right way to go, and is proven in their latest musical contribution. Please take a moment and watch that contribution in the video to their brilliant brand new, second single ”Party Like a Dead Star”. Look out for Igor’s creation, the ‘Guitarduino’!
